The first thing you learn in baseball is how to hold the bat (remember to line up your knuckles) and its pretty hard to go any further with the game until you figure this out.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is no different. There’s a whole world of amazing resources that discuss the day-to-day minutiae of SEO, and my two favorites are SEOmoz and SearchEngineLand.

However, before you dive into the technical details of How Google Improves Search Quality Through The User Interface I would suggest that you take time to understand the fundamentals. Just so happens that Google released a short and sweet beginner’s guide to Search Engine Optimization today.

5 search engine rules for new bloggers

I’ve been blogging full time now for close to three years and while there are a ton of tips and tricks to build big traffic numbers, search engine traffic is by far the most consistent over time.

It just so happens that getting solid, consistent traffic over time from search engines doesn’t take much time. Of course, if you want to get HUGE numbers there’s a lot more to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) than what I am going to lay out here.

The five rules I’m offering here are things you can do with very little effort and hopefully just become second nature. And for the SEO experts out there, I know this list is simplifying SEO and for any new bloggers that really want to get down to the real nitty gritty of SEO can dive right into the extensive word of SEO on sites like SEOmoz and SearchEngineLand.
